SpeechStart™ is a utility from PCByVoice which enhances your hands-free control of your desktop.
Designed to run in the Windows background, it gives access to voice commands for:
- starting Dragon NaturallySpeaking by voice at any time
- restarting Dragon NaturallySpeaking by voice at any time (even if it is locked up)
- switching on the microphone by voice from the off state (red microphone icon)
It also overcomes the problem where, with Dragon NaturallySpeaking in sleep mode, the microphone is vulnerable to switching itself on after hearing any speech within range of the microphone. SpeechStart™ allows you to just switch the microphone off by voice and then back on again by voice, thus avoiding sleep mode. It contains an option that requires a verbal confirmation that the microphone is definitely to be switched on. As an added failsafe, the confirmation must be given within a three second window. (This time period can be set in the SpeechStart options to anything between 2 and 9 seconds)
As an example of its use, consider a setup where one is using the same microphone for Dragon and Skype telephone calls. It is all too easy for the microphone to switch itself back on during a telephone conversation when switched to sleep mode. SpeechStart™ allows you to switch it off and only come back on again on hearing “SWITCH On Dragon”. There is a further failsafe built into SpeechStart™ so that, even if you said that particular command name in conversation, the microphone would not come back on without a verbal confirmation given to a splash screen within the three second window.
Originally designed for disabled hands-free users to overcome difficulties when, for example, Dragon locks up due to an interaction with a particular program/configuration, it is also a great tool to have always running in the background for any user to start or restart Dragon NaturallySpeaking by voice at any time and to switch the microphone on by voice from the off state.
